Typing speed. How can I improve myself? – The keyboard reviews

Writing your own story is extremely fun and inspirational, but typing it on a computer keyboard can be a bit tedious process. You have to look at your keyboard in order to find a letter and then move your finger all the way to reach that letter. With such typing speed, you will never finish your story or whatever is that you are typing. Stick with us, and we will help you out!

If this sounds like your experience, here we will walk you through how to speed up this typing process in five simple steps.

Even if you are willing to step into a professional typing this article has you covered.

1) Environment

First things first. You need to make sure that you feel comfortable and nothing can disturb you as you practice fast typing. You’ll need to get a table instead of typing on a laptop in your lap and use a proper keyboard for typing, but more on that later.

2) Setup

Your posture will be the most important thing in the long run, so make sure you fix that right in the beginning. Find a comfortable chair and seat down so your feet can touch the floor. Straighten your back and make sure your forearms are parallel with the floor. That will set proper height for your keyboard position and also a table. Don’t forget to also set the top of your monitor in the same height as your eyes.

3) Get to know your keyboard

The keyboard is your tool here, so you will have to familiarize yourself with it in order to maximize your typing speed. This will take some time but don’t worry.
Most keyboards use the same key layout, the QWERTY layout and that is perfectly fine for typing as fast as possible. There are also different layouts like DVORAK which is famous for its key layout efficiency (most used letters are in the middle row).

It’s time for you to relearn correct finger placement on your keyboard.

If you take a closer look at the keys “F” and “J”, you’ll notice a slight bump. This helps you keep your fingers positioned correctly without looking at the keyboard, and it’s also useful for people with visual impairment.

So, ideally, your index fingers should be placed on keys “F” and “J” and other fingers should come in place naturally. In the picture below, you can see color-coded areas showing you which keys are pressed with which finger. Force yourself to follow this scheme on purpose. With time, it will be a part of your muscle-memory and become an automatic process. The less you think about it, the better.

To practice this we recommend typing academy and typing study platforms.

4) Touch typing

This step requires you to learn touch typing which is a special technique that requires you to type without looking at the keyboard. It will seem to be more difficult in the beginning, but in the end, it will pay off, trust me. You just have to practice every day. Consistency is the key to every success.

With time, you will know where each key is and you won’t have to worry about it at all. The next step is just to keep practicing and speed will come. Our top recommendation for developing your typing skills further is typeracer platform.

5) Choose your weapon

The final thing left is to find out which keyboard suits you the best for typing speed. Most recommended are mechanical keyboards with blue switches which have a clicky feel so you get a better physical response of when the key is pressed and registered. We recommend you to check out this keyboard because it’s high quality and has the option of Chery MX blue switches.

But also feel to check out other types of keyboards and decide which one suits you the best.
